Building the world we want to live in tomorrow, today.

main tree
We’re on a mission to use all the resources we have — our science, our voice, our business and our community — to create a better tomorrow for our pets, people and the planet.

Carefully-curated, conscious kibble

With the increasing impacts of climate change, the pandemic and social injustice, this is a critical moment to change the trajectory we’re on. That’s why we work relentlessly towards improving our impact by making our activities more sustainable and socially responsible.

In support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, we’re transforming the way we work – from how we source active nutrients to how we fish the oceans for our pet food ingredients – to ensure every part of our operations and extended supply chains help people and the planet thrive.

We plan to expand our use of renewable energy, help farmers cut water use while increasing crop yield, work to eliminate deforestation and evolve our product packaging to support a circular economy.

Food without the footprint

Humanity’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have changed the composition of our atmosphere and people around the world are beginning to feel the effects, from increased average and extreme temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns, to more severe and less predictable storms.

MARS' efforts include aiming to reduce the total GHG emissions across our value chain by 27% by 2025, and to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

How?

Transitioning to renewable electricity, across our factories and offices, while reducing our overall energy consumption.

Procuring sustainable ingredients, by leveraging our nutrient-based approach and reducing carbon emissions through the reformulation of products, including switching to sustainably-sourced proteins and low-carbon intensity ingredients.

Where taste and transparency collide

Reducing waste and boosting circularity, by significantly boosting recyclability, and the use of reusable packaging in alignment with MARS’ ambitious packaging sustainability goals.

We plan to reduce our virgin plastic use by 25%, for 100% of our plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable and use, on average, 30% recycled content in our plastic packaging.
